Ant Extermination in Calgary AB
The ant body is quite recognizable with three clearly divided sections: the head, thorax, and gaster. Ants are social insects and live in colonies comprising of one or a few queens, and then many workers. The queen often hides safe deep within the nest and the ants you see outside are the female workers.
What Do Ants Eat?
Most ants eat a variety of small insects that they capture or dead ones that they find, nectar, or honeydew. Ants often live in the soil building a nest and underground tunnels. You may see ants entering buildings or homes because they are foraging for food.
Our Calgary Pest Control Procedures
Absolute Pest Control will begin by inspecting and treating around your house perimeter. The front and backyard will be sprayed with an insecticide that will eliminate all ant activity, nests, and hills. Ants are attracted by sugary foods, oils like peanut butter smears, crumbs, and honeydew produced by aphid-infested houseplants. When an ant finds a food source, they leave a scented trail for others to follow. If you are finding ants not only outside your home but inside as well, please let your technician know.
Solving Your Problem Without Insecticides
We will try to solve your ant problem without applying insecticide inside your home by eliminating the exterior infestation first. However, if you continue to see ants inside we will treat them accordingly.
The treated areas will be safe for your children and pets as soon as the chemical is dry. We recommend staying away from treated areas for approximately 4 hours. We use a backpack application sprayer that allows the technician to apply the insecticide very precisely and only in areas needed.

Social Insects
Ants are social insects of the family Formicidae Ants form colonies that range in size from a few dozen predatory individuals living in small natural cavities to highly organized colonies which may occupy large territories and consist of millions of individuals. These larger colonies consist mostly of sterile wingless females forming castes of “workers”, “soldiers”, or other specialized groups. Nearly all ant colonies also have some fertile males called “drones” and one or more fertile females called “queens”. The colonies are sometimes described as superorganisms because the ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the colony. Ants have colonized almost every landmass on Earth. Their success in so many environments has been attributed to their social organization and their ability to modify habitats, tap resources, and defend themselves.
